Show 2 “Crimes of the Heart”
A Comedy/Drama by Beth Henley
This Pulitizer Prize winning play is set in Hazlehurst, Mississippi, where the Magrath sisters have gathered to await news of their grandfather who is living out his last hours at a hospital. Lenny, the oldest sister at 30, is unmarried and facing diminishing prospects; Meg, the middle sister who outgrew Hazlehurst, is back after a failed singing career on the West Coast; while Babe, the youngest, is out on bail after shooting her husband. Their troubles, alternately grave and ridiculous, are highlighted by their priggish cousin Chick, and the awkward lawyer who is falling in love with Babe while preparing her defense. The play is the story of three sisters escaping the past to seize the future, unfolding in a heartfelt and hilarious manner.
