Follies
The story concerns a reunion in a crumbling Broadway theatre, scheduled for demolition, of the past performers of the "Weismann's Follies," a musical revue (based on the Ziegfeld Follies), that played in that theatre between the World Wars. It focuses on two couples, Buddy and Sally Durant Plummer and Benjamin and Phyllis Rogers Stone, who are attending the reunion.

KATIE ENGEL
|
(Young Phyllis) is thrilled to be back in another WCP production after previously appearing in Mister Roberts as Lt. Ann Girard and Tribute as Sally Haines. Thanks to the cast and crew for all their hard work, Ed for giving her a reason to get out her old tap shoes, and Bobby for being her dancing partner on and off stage. Katie also serves on the WCP Board of Directors as Director of Marketing and Playbill.

(Young Buddy) has been seen in The Last Romance, Brighten Beach Memoirs (Eugene), Hairspray (Edna Turnblad), 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee (Barfee), Seussical (Mayor of Whoville), Footloose (Rev. Shaw Moore). He is currently on the record label Victory Music Buzz. Cory would like to thank Ed for the opportunity and Suzan Schnitzer for reaching out to him for the role.

(Carlotta Campion) has been immersed in theater for many years, in and around NJ & NY. It is a pleasure working with this talented and beautiful cast. Thank you to our wonderful Director Ed Bontempo and WCP for staging Follies! Linda has previously been seen as Miss Amory in Black Coffee at WCP, Abby in Musical of Musicals, the Musical at Nutley Little Theater, Lilliane Le Fleur in Nine! at Hamilton Stage, Carla in Phantom at UCPAC, Marta in Thumbs! At Bergen County Players (World premier). Also a director for WCP, Linda has directed Don’t Dress for Dinner, It Runs in the Family, Play it Again, Sam, and The Foreigner (among others). Linda designs and builds sets (and trees) and is proficient in stage pyrotechnics. Her absolute favorite role is John’s “other half”. AML, AML “I’m Still Here…”

(Theodore Whitman) is a veteran cabaret performer in NYC, NJ and PA. He is thrilled to be returning to community theatre with this production of Follies with the Westfield Community Players. (Solange La Fitte) is thrilled to return to the stage after two decades away. Rosanne was last seen here on the WCP stage in COLE, a review of the works of Cole Porter, and Petra in another Sondheim masterpiece, A Little Night Music. Rosanne’s classical theater training and emphasis in improv proved to be the perfect mix of skills for her years as a professional actress at Colonial Williamsburg. Now a days, Rosanne belts out a few cabaret tunes with Joseph Regan (Thursday’s and Sunday’s) at 16 Prospect right here in Westfield. Please stop by!

(Joe, the Bartender) was last seen here at WCP in On Borrowed Time. Prior to that, Richard appeared in The Man Who Came to Dinner, Mister Roberts and debuted in One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. He’s also had roles in the Summit Playhouse production of Godspell and The Day the Rainbow Broke Up with the Maplewood Strollers. In his spare time, Richard enjoys spending time with his nephews Calum and Mason as well as watching classic TV and movies (especially those starring Jack Nicholson!)

(Roscoe) has performed in many professional and community concerts and productions. By day Ray is the Guest Services Director for State Theatre New Jersey, and is a Wedding Officiant and private vocal coach. He is the 2014 recipient of the NJACT Lifetime Achievement Award for his long association with Playhouse 22. Ray studied voice with Metropolitan Opera greats - the late Louie Sgarro and for 30 years with the late Mario Bertolino. Thank you, Ed, for bringing me on board to work with you and some talented old friends!

(Sally Durant Plummer) last appeared on the WCP stage as Harriet Stanley in The Man Who Came to Dinner. Other recent roles include Mrs. Dubose in Summit Playhouse’s To Kill a Mockingbird and, at Trilogy Rep, Gerry in Play On!, Mrs. Paroo in The Music Man and Penny Sycamore in You Can’t Take It With You. She feels privileged to be a part of this special production and to have had the chance to work with such great people. (Buddy Plummer) is happy to be back at WCP after a long absence, where he directed Born Yesterday and appeared as Dr. Sloper in The Heiress, Waldo in Laura, and Palmer in Murder Among Friends. His more recent performances have included Grandpa in You Can’t Take It With You (Spotlight Players), Marcus Lycus in A Funny Thing Happened… (PinnWorth Productions) and Alfie Doolittle in My Fair Lady (Playhouse22), as well as many others. He is also a director and playwright. Many thanks to Ed Bontempo for giving him the opportunity to take on this great role.

GORDON WIENER

(Benjamin Stone) has been active in Central New Jersey community theater for forty years. For WCP he directed productions of Angel Street, The Unexpected Guest, and The Price. He also played the murderer in Musical Comedy Murders of 1940. More recently, Gordon appeared in Clybourne Park, Jersey Voices, Spatter Pattern, and A Christmas Carol for Chatham Community Players, and directed their production of Sherlock Holmes: The Final Adventure. He is looking forward to his next project: directing A Doll’s House, Part 2 for The Summit Playhouse in November. Many thanks to Ed Bontempo and Marla Endick, and his ever patient wife, Phyllis.

(Young Stella) is thrilled to finally be working with Ed and everyone else as choreographer and a performer in Follies! She was last seen at WCP when she attended rehearsal at the age of six weeks old, with her mom and dad for A Day in Hollywood! Natalie is about to graduate from the Rutgers Graduate School of Education, with her Masters in Dance Education. She hopes to soon start her career as a dance educator in public schools. Working on Follies has been such a great experience as an aspiring educator, especially with the opportunity to work with her mom and sister. I would like to thank Ed for this wonderful opportunity, and thank my close friends and family for always being so supportive of my work. It has been a pleasure choreographing this show, and working with this incredible cast of old and new friends!

He is currently involved in their yearly production, Hairspray, happening in June. Past CAU credits include Annie, Aladdin, The Music Man, and Shrek the Musical. Her original play “Autonomy” was staged in Manhattan by the Outcast Theater Company in 2015. Recently, she directed a staged reading of Mr. Burns: A Post-Electric Play at Circle Players. SUSAN ROBERTS

(Ensemble) is in her Folly to be back at WCP having made her WCP debut as Mrs. Rogers in And Then There Were None. She also appeared in The Man Who Came to Dinner and most recently, The Foreigner as a Townsperson. This is Ms. Roberts' 50+ role which includes various children's productions, musicals, 20+ chorus solos, and comedies in numerous local NJ community theaters. Susan is the queen of quirky character roles. When Ms. Roberts is not on stage, she is behind the DVD camera filming others in their productions -- and hopes to work with many more. Susan wishes to thank her own support cast of loving well-wishers: Stuart, Alberta, Adam Roebuck, Ed Bontempo, Bruce De La Cruz, the Lemenilles who always help her out in time of need. Where would I be without them?

She most recently played Tyler in Neil LaBute's Some Girl(s) at Studio Playhouse. Favorite credits include: The Other Place (Dr. Teller, Laurel, Woman), Almost, Maine (Glory, Hope, Waitress), Beyond Therapy (Prudence), Polaroid Stories (Eurydice) and The Vagina Monologues. Lisa is a graduate of the NYU Program in Educational Theatre and teaches middle school theatre and dance.

Grace couldn’t be happier about being alongside her mom throughout the whole experience. (Ensemble) is very excited to finally be in a show of Ed’s after knowing him all her life. She is a junior at SPFHS and a proud member of Dance Reflections at Metuchen Dance Centre, where she has been studying a variety of styles of dance since the age of two. Doing a show with her mother and sister has been a very fun experience and it has been so amazing to meet her mother’s old friends as well as making so many new ones!

(Director) is thrilled to be doing this production of Follies here at Westfield. This show is one of Ed’s favorites. “I began my love affair with Follies back in the early 1980’s, I can remember listening to the album and just loving this music, hoping to someday do a production with my signature flair.”
A graduate from Union County College, Ed studied costume design at Fashion Institute of Technology, FIT. in Manhattan. Some of his other credits include:
Chicago, Minnie’s Boys, Merrily We Roll Along, Sweeney Todd, Mr. Roberts, where he won the act award for outstanding costume design, and most recently Black Coffee and The Foreigner here at WCP. On a personal note, many members of this cast of Follies have all been working together at some time or another for 30+ years. It is a real pleasure to have everyone back together again.
So, hats off, here they come my beautiful girls!!!
Ed was nominated for a NJACT Perry Award for Featured Actor in WCP's production of Mister Roberts and received a Perry Award for Costumer of Mister Roberts.

STEVE LEMENILLE
|
(Producer/Stage Manager) Steve has directed WCP's production of Dial 'M' for Murder, A View from the Bridge, the comedy Squabbles, {p r o o f}, Barefoot in the Park, A Thousand Clowns and last season's And Then There Were None. In 2013 Steve was nominated for a NJACT Perry Award for OUSTANDING DIRECTOR OF A PLAY for {proof}. He also has appeared in six consecutive productions here at WCP.
Steve has been involved in theatre since his college days at Jersey City State. He is a retired Social Studies teacher and Drama Director of 29 years with the Hackensack Public Schools. Steve was also a MFA candidate at Montclair State. He has acted with Tower Players and the Opera Workshop of Jersey City, StageCrafters (Fairlawn), and Bergen County Players. He has also acted in dinner theatre for Regal Productions.
Some of the roles he portrayed were: Otto Frank in The Diary of Anne Frank (Tower Players), the Grandfather in The Long Christmas Dinner (Tower Players), Ulysses in Tiger At The Gates (Tower Players), Paul Verrall in Born Yesterday (Bergen County Players), Paul in Barefoot in the Park (Fairlawn), and Michael in Second Time Around and the Inspector Paul Sevigne in A Shot In The Dark (Regal Productions) and the Grandfather in Kurt Wiell's Down in the Valley (Opera Workshop). Steve portrayed Theseus in A Midsummer Night's Dream, Stanley in Death of a Salesman, The Magistrate in Fools, and Gen. Oscar Fairfax in Little Mary Sunshine and Kilroy in Don't Drink the Water, and most recently as Daniel in Almost, Maine…all for WCP. Steve was nominated for a 2009 NJACT Perry Award for OUTSTANDING ENSEMBLE MEMBER for his role as the Magistrate in Fools.
His directorial credits include: You Can't Take It with You, Harvey, The Man Who Came to Dinner, Gramercy Ghost, George Washington Slept Here, L'il Abner, The King & I, Oklahoma, Sound of Music, The Diary of Anne Frank, Our Town, South Pacific, The Music Man, Rehearsal for Death (all for HMS), Dial 'M' for Murder (Stagecrafters/WCP).
Steve was nominated for two (2) 2012 NJACT Perry Awards for OUTSTANDING PRODUCTION OF A PLAY (As Producer for Rehearsal for Murder) and as OUTSTANDING FEATURED ACTOR IN A PLAY (Rehearsal for Murder). Steve was also nominated for two (2) NJACT 2011 Perry Awards: OUTSTANDING SUPPORTING ACTOR in a Play for his role as Justice Lawrence Wargrave in Main Street Theatre's production of And Then There Were None, and OUTSTANDING FEATURED ACTOR in a Play for his role as Isaac Cohen in Westfield Community Players production of Abie's Irish Rose.
Steve is currently the President of WCP, as well as, the webmaster here at WCP. Steve wishes to thank his wife, JoAnne, for getting him back involved with theatre. "Without her support and love, I can accomplish little. Thank you dear!!" Steve also thanks Sherrie Ahlin and Drude Roessler for making his WCP experiences very special. A special note of thanks to Katie, Mike, JoAnne, James, Glenn, Bill and Barbara for their contributions in making this another excellent production. And of course special thanks to this Cast/Crew for their hard work and love of theatre.
Steve has also performed at the Grove Street Theater in Montclair performing in Apricot Productions' 1-act series. Also, he has appeared in a series of monologues entitled Sex, Relationships and Sometimes… Love at The Old Library Theater, Main Street Theater Company; and at the Producer's Club and the Jerry Orbach Theater, both off-Broadway, NYC. Steve also directed Harper Lee's classic To Kill A Mockingbird at the Union County Performing Arts Center (UCPAC) on the Hamilton Stage, in Rahway, NJ for Fearless Productions.
Most recently, Steve was inducted into NJACT's Hall of Fame for Directing.

KAY MACRAE

(Producer) Kay received her 2nd Perry Award Nomination for Outstanding Production of a Play for the Westfield Community Players production of Angel Street. She has been a member of WCP for many, many years---singing, acting and enjoying it all!! Kay has produced such notable productions here at WCP of Little Mary Sunshine, Born Yesterday, Second Time Around and Squabbles…to mention just a few. Kay also serves on the Play Reading Committee and served as Director of Public Relations. Kay sings with Celebration Singers in Cranford.
Kay currently serves as President of the Westfield Musical Club which is an organization devoted to fostering and encouraging good music, providing opportunities for performance, and supporting college music scholarships.
There are also seven handsome grandsons in her life! .

(Properties) JoAnne appeared as Mrs. Isaac Cohen in WCP's production of Abie's Irish Rose. She also appeared as Mrs. Lipari in A View from the Bridge. She began her WCP experience with her role as Mildred WCP's production of The Cemetery Club. Since that time, JoAnne has been the Properties Mistress for our productions and served on WCP's Board of Directors as Director of Productions. JoAnne recently served as President of WCP for three terms; she is now serving as Vice President of Production. JoAnne has been nominated for a NJACT Perry Award for Outstanding Properties in a Play for Rehearsal for Murder
She has always been involved in theatre since she was a child back in Union with the Teen Stagers. She has also appeared as Polly in The Boyfriend, Anna in New Girl in Town; Eleanor in Second Time Around (for Regal Productions), and Peggy in Front Page. Besides doing props, she has worked on Scenery and Set Design. Her favorite role was Eleanor in Second Time Around because it gave her the chance to play her husband, Steve's, snobbish and self-centered wife.
JoAnne is a retired teacher of music from the Clark School system where she was the vocal, instrumental and music theory teacher for over twenty years and for which she directed and musical directed the plays for Kumpf School. "I make bead flowers - an old French art of using glass beads." Special thanks to my husband Steve and JoAnn Scanlon for giving me the chance to rekindle my love for the stage, and thanks to a wonderful cast and fabulous crew." It's good to have you back on front stage!!!

JEAN LIOY

(Properties Mistress) Jean is a retired professor of microbiology at Union County College and also Rutgers/UMDNJ. She also has been a consultant with the NJ Office Of Homeland Security in the area of bioterrorism and emergency preparedness.
Being new to WCP, she is very thankful for the opportunity to learn about the backstage world of the theater.
Jean currently serves on the Board of Directors as Director of Performance.

(Set) Bill not only serves as our set designer, but is currently WCP's Treasurer and serves on the Board of Directors. Bill has recently been nominated for a NJACT Perry Award for Outstanding Set Design for a Play for Rehearsal for Murder

KATIE ENGEL
|
(Playbill/Marketing) Katie is WCP's Playbill and Marketing Director having been re-elected last June. Katie made her WCP debut in Tribute portraying Sally Haines. Katie also appeared as Lt. Ann Girard in last season's production of Mister Roberts. Katie has also Stage Managed for And Then There Were None.
Katie also was the Stage Manager for The Other Place produced by Fearless Productions at UCPAC's Hamilton Stage in Rahway, NJ back in 2015.

(Lighting Designer/Operator) This is Ed's second year with WCP. Ed has been instrumental in updating and improving our lighting system giving up greater opportunity to enhance our productions. Ed has also been a part of our construction staff.
Ed serves on the Board of Directors as Director of Technical.

JOSH JANCOURTZ

(Sound Operator) Josh was last seen as Inspector Japp in WCP's October production of Black Coffeeand in WCP's January production of The Foreigner as "Froggy" Le Seuer.
Josh also ran sound for On Borrowed Time. He is a software developer, musician, and dad. He hasn’t acted in a long, long, long time, but thanks to his son, Ben, he has caught the acting bug again. As his family well knows, one of his favorite shows remains Gilbert and Sullivan’s Pirates of Penzance, in which he performed as (while not the Pirate King) his lieutenant, Samuel. He would like to thank his family for their love and encouragement, as well as the wonderful folks at WCP for their support and guidance.

(Box Office) Wendy is our newest Board of Directors member. She is serving as our Box Office Director.

ED BONTEMPO

(Costumes) Aside from portraying the role of Beverly Carlton in the production of The Man Who Came to Dinner, Ed has taken on the responsibility of being the costumer, including hair and make-up for this production.
Most recently Ed received two 2018 NJACT Perry Award Nominations: Outstanding Featured Actor in a Play Mister Roberts and Outstanding Costume Design of a Play Mister Roberts. He was the recipient of Outstanding Costume Design.
